Clean Water receives clean water

By Blessing Munkuli
Lubu community gathered at Clean Water (village) on the 14th of November celebrating the official opening of the reservoir for taped water constructed Catholic Development Commission (CADEC) now known as Caritas, coordinated by Mr Siakwenga, which supplies the traditionally dry community whose people used to walk down hill for about 6-7 km to fetch water.
The ward councilor, Mr Mackson Mudimba was elected into power for the second time in the March 2013 Harmonized Elections and the community applauses his hard work in community development.
“Tulalumba bakansela Mudimba…. Twalumba baSiakwenga Mweendo akutweetela maanzi…” the community sang showing their gratitude to the ward councilor and to Caritas, a Non-Governmental organisation which is the one that erected the tank and provided with solar-powered water pumps for making water available to the local people.
These people were known for surviving on a 20l bucket per household which would see the family’s water for drinking washing dishes as well as bathing.
The guest of honor, Dr Sijabulile Ndlovu also much-admired the works of Caritas as she alluded the effort made to a decree made by the colonizer during the displacement of the BaTonga from the great river in 1957, which says “water shall follow you” meaning that Caritas has made water to follow the people of Clean Water uphill.
Margaret Mudimba of Clean Water noted that some people still have to travel to fetch water from the reservoir.
“Twalumba kuba aamanzi mulukombe pesi banikema balikubulo bachilaayo nkondo yamaanzi,” she said.
That is to say, people who are near the Clean Water Econet booster are not yet ransomed from the water problem.
Upon the knowledge that the local pump minders lacked adequate tools to repair broken boreholes in Lubu, the Rural District Council gave the local pump minders a full kit to resuscitate broken boreholes which will increase the water points in the community.
